Working days — also called business days — exclude weekends and public holidays. Contracts, SLAs, and shipping commitments almost always quote durations in working days because calendar days produce misleading deadlines around long weekends and end-of-year stretches.
Pick a country and a date range; the calculator returns the working-day count using weekend rules (Mon–Fri in most places, Fri–Sat in Saudi Arabia and a few others) and the public-holiday calendar for that country. Holiday data comes from the Nager.Date open dataset, refreshed nightly. When a country's holidays haven't yet been imported, the result falls back to weekend-only counting and is clearly flagged in the UI.
Frequently asked questions
- Are the start and end dates both counted?
- Yes — both endpoints are inclusive. A start of Monday and end of Friday in the same non-holiday week returns 5 business days. (Our days-between calculator uses the opposite convention — exclusive start — because that matches PM tools.)
- Which countries are supported?
- Around 110 countries via the Nager.Date open dataset. Countries without an imported holiday calendar fall back to weekend-only counting with a visible warning.
- How recent is the holiday data?
- Refreshed nightly from date.nager.at. For the current calendar year and the next two years, the data is typically within 24 hours of any government update.
- Does it handle observed-day shifts (e.g. holiday falling on Sunday)?
- Yes. Nager.Date publishes the observed date when a holiday is moved, and we count that observed date as the non-working day.
